All are welcome. There are many opportunities to help with weeding, planting, cleaning up, watering, socializing, etc.
Sasturday, June 19th we will be having a seed exploration.
Children will learn about the purpose and the process of seeds in plant development. They will also learn about the parts of seeds and their functions. They will be able to examine seeds close up with magnifying glasses and seed identification boxes.
After learning about seeds the children will make harmless "seed bombs" to take with them. After a "seedy" snack children will take pictures of their gardens and do some weeding.
They will end with writing a short story about the journey of a seed.
Vicki Gregorio, Public Health & Nutrition Grad Student at UNMC, will lead the class.
Children will meet the other children gardeners. They will do simple exercises in learning plant names and the basics of starting garden plants. This should last 45 minutes. We get a break of 10-15 minutes for snacks. Then we visit our beds to weed/plant and meet the plants.
This Saturday, Nicole Giron (City Sprouts Board Chair and horticultural therapist), Jeanine Dickes (urban farmer), and Vicki Gregorio (public health) will be heading up the class, while Children's Garden Program Director Jumoke Omojola is in New York City on family business.

Hello Gardeners! Happy New Garden Season!
It looks like the snow is never going away! But it will soon! Come garden with City Sprouts.
The 2010 Season garden bed sign-up is on Saturday, March 20th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm at the City Sprouts House, 4002 Seward Street.
Bed rental costs are $20 for Orchard Hill residents and $30 for everyone else for the entire growing season (Please bring cash or check payment with you). Scholarship funds may be available. Water, compost, some seeds, plants, tools and some instruction are included in these fees.
We require gardeners with plots to volunteer 4 hours/month minimum towards overall garden maintenance on garden workdays. Of course we would love more volunteer hours for those who are able.
Garden workdays are Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings (May through November).
Please be reminded that City Sprouts promotes organic gardening and does not allow chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizer. Black gold (compost) will often take care of fertilizing needs!
All gardeners will need to sign a waiver and a responsibility agreement.
Priority will be given to former gardeners and Orchard Hill neighbors but you must sign up to be sure of getting a bed. Bed allocations are on first come first serve basis.
Several children sized beds are available free for children aged 5 -12 years to grow flowers, vegetables and learn about gardening.
Educational and fun activities are offered 10:30-12:00 pm on designated Saturdays throughout the season.
If you cannot make it out on Saturday the 20th to sign up for a bed, please contact Jeanine Dickes at jeaninedickes@gmail.com or Jumoke Omojola at csgardening@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you all!
