Welcome to our new garden manager!
Haley Burns is the new garden manager for City Sprouts! She will be in the garden Wednesdays, and Friday and Saturday mornings throughout the season. If you need help or if you want to help, look for Haley!
What grows the best in your garden?
Kale! This year I harvested the kale that I planted last May until I was ready to till in March!
What are you most passionate about in regards to City Sprouts?
Bringing awareness to nutritious foods that everyone can afford.
What are your hobbies?
In my free time I try to perfect my vegan cooking/baking skills… but mostly baking. I like to find recipes heavy on milk and eggs and veganize them to taste the same.
Tell us about your family.
I’m an only child. My entire family is from and lives in Omaha, and we are really close to the extended family. My mom works at UPS and my dad is a construction/fix-it/craftsman guy. Because of this, I’ve never been in my house without some sort of project going on… one time my mom and I came home to my dad standing on the kitchen counter with a chainsaw and a massive new hole to the outside.
What is one thing that no one knows about you?
When I was a kid I would pull bark off of a tree in my backyard, but I always felt really bad about it, so I would talk to her and sing to her, making up songs to explain how sorry I was. I guess my neighbors probably know that already.
If you had to give up a favorite food, which would be the most difficult to give up?
Peanut butter
What is one food you’d never want to taste again?
Celery
If you won a lottery ticket and had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
I would travel the world and pay off my college loans.
You’ve been given access to a time machine. Where and when would you travel to?
I’d like to travel the Silk Road
Which is the best vacation you’ve ever had?
When I was 7, my family took a two week road trip from Omaha to Denver to New Mexico to Arizona to LA to Las Vegas to Utah to Wyoming and back. It was awesome.
What is the one thing you want people to remember about you?
That I cared about the future
If you could go on a road trip with any person (dead or alive), who would you choose and where would you go?
I’d like to road trip with my best friend Emily to visit the 20 states I have left of the 50 states.
