Urban Farming Internship

Our Urban Farming Internship Program provides part-time employment to 14 young adults, training them in agriculture, horticulture, culinary arts, public health and life skills. Additionally, they gain experience in customer service, job readiness and leadership, as they work as a team to manage our Decatur Urban Farm and plots at City Sprouts South. You can support our interns by visiting our on-site Market Stand every Saturday!

Earn over $2,000

at $10/hour, Saturdays in May & August; Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in June/July.

Intern Qualifications

  • Must be 15–20 years old

  • Eligible for Free and Reduced Meals

  • Interest in: Agriculture, Horticulture, Nutrition,
    Culinary Arts or Education

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.


Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with regular crop maintenance including planting, watering, weeding and harvesting at the Decatur Urban Farm or City Sprouts South garden.

  • Marketing of produce.

  • Promote City Sprouts to the community thorough site visits, school visits, presentations and events.

  • Work in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Work with diverse groups or individuals in indoor and outdoor settings.

  • Cook, serve meals and clean up for team and guests.

  • Clean inside and outside of the City Sprouts Education Center.


Internship schedule

  • May 6 through June 3
    Saturdays, 9 A.M. – 2 P.M. (school is in session)

  • June 5 through August 5
    Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 9 A.M. – 2 P.M.

  • August 12 – 26
    Saturdays, 9 A.M. – 2 P.M. (school is in session) 

  • Sunday, August 20 — City Sprouts Annual Gala
    10 A.M. – 5 P.M. - Attendance required!
