About the Event

Summary

In this workshop, participants will learn the why, how, and when’s of cover cropping. Why should you

plant a cover crop, what cover crop species are right for your particular growing conditions and goals,

and when and how to establish and kill the cover crops. Cover crop growing guides are included in the

hand-outs.

About Katja

Katja Koehler-Cole is the Statewide Soil Health Management extension educator and also serves as the

SARE state co-coordinator for Nebraska. Before she started this position, she worked as a researcher in

the Agronomy & Horticulture department at UNL. Katja’s work has focused on increasing the use of soil

health practices in Nebraska cropping systems, drawing on the connections between soils, plants,

animals, and people. She has a particular interest in cover crops as a means to increase soil armor and

living roots in the ground year-round. Outside her work, she enjoys spending time with her husband,

four daughters and numerous indoor and outdoor plants.
