growing gardeners workshops
The Growing Gardeners Workshop Series is a collaboration between City Sprouts and The Big Garden. We work together to offer four seasons of hands-on workshops that feature skills and techniques for every gardener and urban farmer: growing, cooking, preserving and eating healthy local food. All workshops are free and open to all ages.
Our workshops are broken up into three main tracks: Urban Ag School, Herbal Medicine Cabinet, and Culinary Workshops. We also have smaller workshops attached to various community events that we have throughout the year. Check out all of our workshop offerings on our Growing Gardeners website.
We love having guest teachers from our community lead workshops! Are you knowledgable about a subject that you'd like to share in a workshop? Reach out to our Education Manager and explain what skills you'd like to share.

About the Event
Curious about canning but not sure where to start? Join us for an introduction to canning where we'll learn the basics of preserving food in jars while sharing stories, recipes, and observations from our gardens and kitchens. As jars fill, we'll spend some time writing and reflecting together. The stories, recipes, field notes, and ideas that emerge from the workshop will help inspire contributions to the next issue of the Groundwater Farmer's Almanac. No canning or writing experience needed. Come learn a practical skill, meet fellow food growers and eaters, and help preserve a bit of the season before it slips away.
Facilitator: Emma Kopplin, Groundwater Farmer’s Almanac and Blazing Star Seed Coop

***All workshops at City Sprouts are "pay what you can" donations. It is important to us that our workshops and events are welcoming and accessible to everyone in our community. Donations help us cover the cost of food, materials, staff time, instructor honorariums etc. When you donate more you are helping to subsidize the cost of others. We have a suggested donation of $5-$10 for lecture style classes and $10-$20 for hands on classes (that have a higher material and prep cost).
