growing gardeners workshops
The Growing Gardeners Workshop Series is a collaboration between City Sprouts and The Big Garden. We work together to offer four seasons of hands-on workshops that feature skills and techniques for every gardener and urban farmer: growing, cooking, preserving and eating healthy local food. All workshops are free and open to all ages.
Our workshops are broken up into three main tracks: Urban Ag School, Herbal Medicine Cabinet, and Culinary Workshops. We also have smaller workshops attached to various community events that we have throughout the year. Check out all of our workshop offerings on our Growing Gardeners website.
We love having guest teachers from our community lead workshops! Are you knowledgable about a subject that you'd like to share in a workshop? Reach out to our Education Manager and explain what skills you'd like to share.

About the Event
Join guest presenters Dr. Caro Córdova and Adda Irebe for an insightful workshop on the crucial role of carbon in understanding soil health. They’ll introduce the carbon color chart, guiding participants through the process of using it to assess soil samples. You’ll get a chance to practice using the chart first-hand and take it home to continue exploring your own soil’s health. While the focus will be on carbon and soil color, April will wrap up the session by introducing additional clues—like smell—that you can use to better understand your soil's unique characteristics. This interactive workshop will give you valuable tools to help you care for your soil at home!
Registration fees for City Sprouts workshops are suggested donations of $5/person for lecture-style classes, and $10/person for value-added classes (i.e., take-home goods, cooking classes, etc.). No one will be turned away for inability to pay.
