City Sprouts Urban Farm, 5420 N 3rd St, Omaha, NE 68110, USA

About the Event

The soil-water relationship is vital for soil formation, decomposition, water purification, nutrient and mineral transport and many other natural dynamics relevant to growers. In the absence of sufficient water, soils cannot sustain above-ground plant or below-ground microbial life. However, excess water can be destructive, leaching and eroding soils. This course will introduce participants to the complex relationship of soils and water and help growers build capacity to conserve water and maximize irrigation efficiency, respond to water stress, and prevent erosion and nutrient loss. This course may include a field tour of various urban farming operations in the Omaha metro area to examine methods of irrigation and water conservation across a variety of production contexts.

Registration fees for Growing Gardeners Workshops are suggested donations of $5/person for lecture-style classes, and $10/person for value-added classes (i.e., take-home goods, cooking classes, etc.). No one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Part of City Sprouts' mission is to provide educational opportunities to the community. Please be honest about what you can afford, so we may continue to provide equitable opportunities for all. Thank you!
