growing gardeners workshops
The Growing Gardeners Workshop Series is a collaboration between City Sprouts and The Big Garden. We work together to offer four seasons of hands-on workshops that feature skills and techniques for every gardener and urban farmer: growing, cooking, preserving and eating healthy local food. All workshops are free and open to all ages.

Our workshops are broken up into three main tracks: Urban Ag School, Herbal Medicine Cabinet, and Culinary Workshops. We also have smaller workshops attached to various community events that we have throughout the year. Check out all of our workshop offerings on our Growing Gardeners website.

We love having guest teachers from our community lead workshops! Are you knowledgable about a subject that you'd like to share in a workshop? Reach out to our Education Manager and explain what skills you'd like to share.

Soil to Plate [Virtual Workshop]
Mon, Mar 25
|Zoom Meeting
This virtual class is designed to introduce new, emerging, and prospective growers to soil: the foundation for life and how they can care for it despite a lack of space or experience.

About the Event
Food in the United States travels around 1,500 miles to get from the farm where it was grown to the plate on which it is eaten. That’s the same distance it would take to get from Omaha, Nebraska to sunny LA, California. Because of this, there is a growing disconnect between the food we eat and how it came to be. This class is designed to introduce new, emerging, and prospective growers to soil: the foundation for life and how they can care for it despite a lack of space or experience.
Registration fees for workshops are pay-what-you-can based donations (suggested $5/person for lecture-style classes; $10/person for value-added classes such as take-home goods, cooking classes, etc.). No one will be turned away for inability to pay.
Part of City Sprouts' mission is to provide educational opportunities to the community. Please be honest about what you can afford, so we may continue to provide equitable opportunities for all. Thank you!
