EDUCATION Topics

Urban Ag School

Urban Ag School is Omaha's first low-cost and in-depth series of classes that aims to equip people with all the basic skills they need to grow their own food. Urban Ag School is for everyone who has a strong desire and commitment to learning more about growing your own food. You don't need to be a current gardener, and you don't need to have special skills or knowledge to attend. Start where you are, and we will work with you to increase your skills and knowledge base.

Herbal Medicine Cabinet

The Herbal Medicine Cabinet is a series of classes that teach you how to utilize different types of herbs as medicinal remedies. We cover everything from making your own tinctures to creating your own salves and body care products. Join these classes to expand your knowledge of herbalism and to start building your own apothecary.

Culinary & Nutrition

Join our cooking and nutrition workshops to learn how to turn all the beautiful raw produce you grow into healthy and delicious foods! We cover preserving methods under this track such as water bath and pressure canning, fermentation, and how to make your own hot sauces. We also have occasional certified nutritionists teach classes on how to get the most nutrition out of your meals.

Lifestyle & Community

Our lifestyle and community events are just a way to say ‘everything else we haven’t covered.’ City Sprouts hosts a lot of fun and free community events throughout the year, and we also teach various craft workshops like painting Pysanka eggs for Easter or decorating your own evergreen wreaths during the holiday months.

Soil Health Series

Beginning in 2023, City Sprouts will be launching the Soil Health Series to offer advanced workshops geared towards experienced growers and beginning farmers under our new Soil Health + Conservation Initiatives. These workshops will support urban farmers interested in adopting conservation practices and building healthier soils and complement the introductory experiences offered through the Growing Gardeners series. The Soil Health Series is designed to provide growers with the soil science and management skills and resources to address common resource concerns in the urban environment.

Annual Seed Share

For nearly 10 years, City Sprouts and partners have hosted an Annual Seed Share event. Held in a safe space and welcome to all, the Seed Share allows community members to come out and grab FREE seeds, or bring your own seeds to swap. Email info@omahasprouts.org for more information.

Guest Teachers

We love having guest teachers from our community lead workshops! Are you knowledgable about a subject that you'd like to share in a workshop? Reach out to our Education Manager and explain what skills you'd like to share.
