7-Year Executive Director of City Sprouts to Retire

Dear friends of City Sprouts,

This year will conclude Roxanne Williams Draper’s service as the Executive Director of City Sprouts. This transition comes at an exciting time for City Sprouts and we look to leverage Roxanne’s significant contributions to the organization and strive towards our mission to cultivate healthy communities and sustainable, equitable food systems through gardening, education and youth employment.

Since Roxanne started at City Sprouts in 2012, she has overseen such accomplishments as:

  • Increasing the budget from $140,000 to $370,000 and staff from 0.5 FTE to 7 FTE to support mission advancement and to meet the needs of increased programming and community outreach

  • Significant improvements to facilities, including: updates to the North Education Center, the addition of City Sprouts South site, and the development of the Decatur Urban Farm

  • Enhancing educational programming, including the acquisition of Truck Farm Omaha, development of Little Sprouts Educational Programming, growth of Growing Gardeners Series with Big Garden, and creation of Garden to Table After School Program.

  • Fostering partnerships with key community stakeholders, including: Avenue Scholars Foundation, CHI Health, Collective for Youth, Crazy Gringa Hot Sauce, Creighton University, Latino Center of the Midlands, Monroe Meyer Institute, Omaha Public Schools, The Big Garden, United Way of the Midlands, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and University of Nebraska Medical Center

  • Recognition from local and national organizations, including: Omaha Food Day 2019 Nonprofit of the Year, the 2017 Club Horticulture Commendation from the Garden Club of America, the Earth Day 2017 Nonprofit Friend of the Environment

Roxanne will be retiring to spend more time with her family, traveling, teaching preschool, and, of course, gardening!

The Board of Directors has created a search committee to oversee the hiring of an experienced and adaptable Executive Director who will champion our mission and lead the organization into its next chapter. Our target date for a new hire is in December 2019, allowing time for Roxanne to onboard the new Executive Director and ensure a smooth transition. We invite you to share our job posting with your networks.

For questions during this process, please contact Roxanne (director@omahasprouts.org) at 402- 216-9616 or Brittani Tanhueco, Search Committee Chair and Board member (citysproutsboard@gmail.com).

Thank you for your past generosity and we look forward to an exciting future for City Sprouts with your continued interest and support.

Sincerely,

Brittani Tanhueco

Search Committee Chair, Board of Directors
